St Peters RC High School, Belle Vue, Manchester | with Aedas | E. C. Harris | Manchester City Council

A number of factors give this school a  unique flavour. The school location is urban fringe, different to what might be thought the ‘normal’ suburban context in which most of our secondary schools sit. What is an appropriate architecture for this situation?

A protected environment is provided, which through its design and material quality sends out a positive message to the community about the future of the surrounding neighbourhood. In order to make the most of the limited site area a 3-storey solution was adopted. Particular emphasis was placed on creating a compact and secure design to maximise the social and recreational outdoor spaces.
