Pleckgate High School | with Aedas | Balfour Beatty | Blackburn

Bid-winning Sample Scheme for a £450m BSF project. On a sloping hillside site with views to the surrounding countryside, and a diverse range of existing habitat areas, this design makes the best use of site and location. Learning zones cluster around a central sequence of communal spaces formed by halls, winter garden and science studio, projected externally into the landscape as outdoor amphitheatre and mature woodland habitat.

Arranged initially by faculty, the building allows for different organizational models, such as year group / home base, or small learning communities, with project-based learning, pupil centred personalised learning and changing curriculum models.

BREEAM Excellent. Completed 2011.
