Clarendon Primary School, Bolton | with Aedas | Balfour Beatty | Bolton
Weaving around retained mature trees, this design takes full advantage of its context, configured to give outdoor landscape contact at its heart in a secure environment. A play deck at first floor level provides an outdoor teaching space, and canopies shelter external play. There is clarity in public and private space, with community halls adjacent to supervised entrance areas for visitors and external user groups.

Teaching classrooms are arranged so that pupils progress through the building throughout their school life. The incorporation of break out spaces, external covered areas and folding partitions gives flexibility. Natural vent and daylighting with passive solar design complement the landscape ethos. 2480m2. £5.4m. Design 2011.
